Sukoon Adda was filled with energy, learning, and plenty of connections! We had an amazing mix of activities, from the lively Tambola game that brought so much fun and laughter, to insightful sessions on health and well-being. Seniors participated in discussions that covered topics like maintaining good health with physiotherapy tips, managing blood pressure, and understanding the importance of financial literacy. The Book Club sparked enriching conversations, while Dosti Ka Adda brought old and new friends together in a space of deep connection. Whether it was monitoring health, learning about finances, or simply enjoying each other's company, this session truly celebrated the spirit of community. Let's dive into the highlights!
Tambola, Laughter, and Wins
What an incredible time we had at last week's Sukoon Adda session! The energy was high, the laughter contagious, and the competition fierce during our Tambola (aka Bingo) game!
The session kicked off with Sukoon enthusiastically explaining the rules, setting the stage for what would become a fun-filled, fast-paced game. And boy, did we have an amazing crew—Kavita, Anita, Gurunath, and so many others, all bringing their vibrant energy to the game. Tickets were ready, pens in hand, and the excitement in the air was palpable.
The Tambola game wasn’t just about winning; it was about enjoying each moment and celebrating every little victory. We had our "early 5" winners, big shoutout to Anita and Gurunath!
And Kavita? She was unstoppable, scoring win after win, with the crowd cheering her on each time. But don't worry, everyone had their fair share of wins—Divya, Naanu, and the rest got their moment in the spotlight too!
The real fun came when we started calling out quirky number phrases! "Two fat ladies" for 88? Definitely! "Heaven's Gate" for 78? Yes, indeed! Sukoon and Naanu kept us in stitches with all the funny and playful phrases. In fact, Sukoon joked that we should have an entire session dedicated to these hilarious codes. Who doesn’t love a bit of Tambola trivia?
Of course, no game is complete without a few ticket mix-ups. But no worries, Sukoon and the team swiftly got everything sorted, and the game continued with even more enthusiasm. Kavita kept racking up victories, while Prema and Naanu joined the winners' circle as well.
Empowering Seniors with Financial Literacy
Speaking of financial literacy, our next session was an eye-opener. Tirath Sir, a seasoned retirement advisor with 33 years of experience, guided our seniors through the world of managing finances, making investments, and understanding the importance of long-term financial security.
Tirath Sir emphasized that it’s not just about saving money—investing smartly is just as crucial. From mutual funds to real estate and government-backed schemes, the session was packed with valuable insights. The crowd was engaged, learning about risk management, diversification, and the power of compounding interest. The concept of "the 8th wonder of the world"—compounding—was particularly fascinating, as Tirath Sir demonstrated how small, regular investments could grow significantly over time.
Everyone left the session empowered, with the knowledge that it’s never too late to take charge of their financial future. Whether it's managing wealth in retirement or leaving a legacy for the next generation, the session was all about making informed, confident financial decisions.
Friendships, Stories, and Laughter
After all that excitement, we dove into a heartwarming get-together filled with laughter, life stories, and meaningful connections. Ajitha kicked things off with a fun icebreaker where everyone introduced themselves using an adjective that perfectly described their personality. The group was buzzing with energy as everyone shared their unique stories.
Bela, a senior from Gujarat, shared how much she values the support and knowledge she’s gained through Sukoon, particularly around topics like self-confidence and investing. And just when you thought it couldn’t get more lively, Gurunath wowed the group with one of his amazing art pieces, impressing everyone, including Sonali!
The sharing didn’t stop there—participants opened up about their life journeys. Bela spoke about her strength and resilience, Soumitro (aka "Mr. Cool") shared his calming philosophy of life, and Kavita and Ajitha had a candid discussion on navigating life’s challenges. It was a beautiful moment of wisdom, self-belief, and gratitude.
Sukoon's platform was truly a lifeline for Sonali, who shared how much comfort and community it has brought her, bringing the room full of gratitude for this shared space of support and connection.
The fun continued with more laughter, as Sangeeta and Ameetha brought their own unique personalities into the conversation. Ameetha, with her love for music, spread joy through the group, while Sangeeta embraced authenticity. It was decided that the Dostika Adda would be a regular event—because who doesn’t love good vibes and heart-to-heart chats?
Physiotherapy for Seniors: Myths, Benefits, and Expert Advice for a Healthier Life
Our next session shifted gears to focus on the physical well-being of seniors. Dr. Sapna Sehgal, a physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience, discussed the importance of physiotherapy for seniors, debunking common myths and offering expert advice on staying active and pain-free.
We tackled myths like "bending causes back pain" and "ageing means chronic pain," with Dr. Sapna stressing that movement and flexibility are key to staying healthy. She also discussed knee pain and how it can often be managed through simple adjustments like proper footwear and personalized exercises.
Weight training was another key topic, with Dr. Sapna encouraging seniors to lift weights to maintain muscle mass and strength. She assured everyone that muscles are responsive to training at any age, helping to combat the natural loss of muscle mass that can occur as we age.
The session concluded with valuable advice on sleep and hydration, and a reminder that staying active through physiotherapy can make a huge difference in leading a healthy life at any age.
Sukoon’s Book Club: A Journey into Stories and Ideas
Sukoon’s book club is also in full swing! Hosted by Anuradha, the certified mindset and mindfulness coach, the club has big plans for 2025. The group’s goal? To read more, share, and grow together. Their first pick? Revolting Rhymes by Roald Dahl—a collection of twisted fairy tales that are sure to spark conversation.
The book club is a space for everyone to explore different genres, discuss books, and grow as readers. Whether you prefer physical books, audiobooks, or Kindles, the club has something for everyone. Join in and let’s make 2025 a year full of stories, wisdom, and connection!
