The Power of Family: A Legacy of Love and Cherished Memories

For Sonali Sengupta, family is the source of strength and the center of her life. Their love, values, and support gave her the strength to face challenges and find joy in life’s simple moments.

“My family taught me how to love, stay strong, navigate through life, and be grateful for the blessings.,” Sonali says with a smile. To her, family is not just a bond but a source of comfort and happiness.

Sonali’s mother was a great example of hard work, balancing her career and family with ease. “She made sure my sister and I had the best opportunities while also caring for our extended family,” Sonali recalls. “She worked so hard to make life better for everyone.” Her grandmother was the heart of their home, offering love and security. “She was like a second mother,” Sonali shares. “My grandmother’s love and contribution brought the family and extended family closer. She made every moment feel special.” Sonali’s father was her guide, coach, and mentor in her education, physical fitness, and extra-curricular activities. “Her father’s story inspired resilience. Despite losing his parents young, he excelled in school and life. “He loved books and learning and sports and steered me in these areas since my childhood,” Sonali says. “He taught me to stay curious and keep growing.”

Some of Sonali’s happiest memories range from normal regular days when time and activities with parents and grandparents brought joy. Some memories are from family trips to holidays. These were not fancy luxurious holidays but they left lasting imprints of joy. It was simple but full of love and laughter and togetherness.” She also treasures the friendships they made with strangers and some of these bods lasted many years and they became like extended family over the years.

Her family’s legacy of love, strength, and connection continues to guide her. “The warmth of shared moments and the strength of knowing you’re never alone that’s the power of family,” she says.

Staying Strong Through Life’s Challenges
Life hasn’t always been easy for Sonali. She went through a tough time when she lost her brother-in-law, father, mother, and grandmother one after another. Suddenly, her home felt emptier, and everyday life became harder. The years that followed were full of challenges and setbacks. “It felt like my world was falling apart, and it was a constant effort to cope,” she says. “But I knew I had to stay strong for my sister, who was heartbroken, and my young nephew, who was just three years old at the time.”

Sonali found strength in the lessons her family had taught her. “My mother and grandmother always showed me how to handle challenges with courage. Their example kept me going,” she says. Their resilience inspired her, reminding her that she could rise above even the hardest losses. The memories of her family gave her some comfort during the toughest times.

Most importantly, Sonali learned that relationships are everything. “The support of loved ones and the bonds we create can carry us through anything,” she explains. Staying close to others and nurturing those bonds helped her stay strong during difficult moments.

With love and determination, Sonali helped raise her nephew, giving him all the care and guidance she could. Today, he’s a Ph.D. student at IIT, and Sonali is filled with pride. “When I look at him today, I feel so proud. It reminds me that even the hardest times can lead to something beautiful,” she says. Her story shows how inner strength and a sense of purpose can guide us through the darkest moments.

Sonali is also deeply thankful to her friends, who supported her emotionally with advice and encouragement during tough times. Gratitude means a lot to her, and she truly values every bit of help she receives.

From painting and writing to cooking, she loves exploring her creative side. “I once took a short course in stained glass painting, and I hope to learn ceramic pottery someday,” she says with a smile. “There’s so much joy in making something with your hands.”

Travel is another passion that fills her with excitement and wonder. Her work and wanderlust has taken her to many places. But so much of the world is still unseen. She would love to visit many other places. “Bali, the Nordic countries are top of the list. I am keen to see the aurora borealis, and do an African safari someday.” she shares. “Traveling lets you see the world in a whole new way. It’s about discovering the beauty and stories of different cultures.”

In her everyday life, Sonali cherishes small joys like gardening on her balcony or glass painting, trying out new recipes. “It’s not about doing big things,” she says. “It’s about enjoying the little moments that make up your day.” Her creative pursuits and love for learning remind us that happiness can often be found in the simplest pleasures.
