Life is full of unexpected twists, but some people face them with such determination and grace that they inspire everyone around them. Ms. Gitanjali is one such person. Her life is a testament to resilience, learning, and kindness. She has faced countless challenges, yet she has continued to evolve, adapt, and inspire others. Even in her later years, she proves that age is never a barrier to dreams, growth, or giving back to society.

A World Within Books: Nurturing a Curious Mind

From an early age, Ms. Gitanjali found joy in books. Unlike other children who spent their days running around outdoors, she preferred the company of Enid Blyton’s mystery adventures and Agatha Christie’s thrilling plots. Books became her best friends, taking her to magical lands and allowing her to live different lives through the characters she read about.

But it wasn’t just the stories that fascinated her, it was the people. Even as a child, she had a sharp eye for observing those around her. She didn’t speak much but understood human emotions and behaviors in ways others didn’t. This ability to notice the little things would later shape her passion for psychology. She wanted to know why people thought the way they did, why they acted in certain ways. But life had other plans, and she was about to face some of her biggest challenges.

Back to School: Defying Age Barriers at IIM

After an 11-year gap from academics, Ms. Gitanjali decided to challenge herself and pursue further education. At the age of 33, with a son aged 6 and a daughter aged 2, she applied to the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), despite having no background in economics or statistics. She had prepared for the CAT, rocking her young daughter to sleep. Surrounded by younger students who were already familiar with the subjects, she refused to be intimidated. During her first economics class, she boldly told the professor, “Sir, I haven’t understood a single word you just said.” While the class laughed, Ms. Gitanjali did not back down.

She pushed herself harder than ever, studying late into the night and even during her bus rides. Her perseverance paid off when she earned a silver medal in her class. Her academic success was more than just an achievement, it was a testament to the power of determination, proving that age is no barrier to pursuing and excelling in one's dreams.

Stepping Up: A Mother's Courage and Determination

Ms. Gitanjali’s life has been marked by resilience, determination, and the courage to reinvent herself. As a child, she was often unwell and spent more time indoors than most, but she focused on her studies and excelled, even winning a gold medal in psychology after completing her MA.

However, the biggest test of her life came at 44 when she tragically lost her first husband in an accident. Left with two young children her son, 17, and her daughter, 12 and no financial security or stable career, she found herself at a crossroads. Although she initially took over her late husband’s business, she quickly realized that this was not the path she wanted to continue on. Instead of staying in an industry that wasn’t her passion, she decided to step away from the business world and pursue something more aligned with her interests and values.

Ms. Gitanjali retrained as a corporate trainer, embarking on a new career in corporate training that allowed her to leverage her skills and passion for helping others. She rebuilt her life from scratch, while providing for her family and navigating the challenges of motherhood.

Her work went beyond just corporate training; she also devoted time to helping cancer patients and worked with numerous NGOs, using her skills to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Despite the immense grief and lack of financial security, Ms. Gitanjali’s determination to create a meaningful life for herself and her children never wavered. She transformed her pain into purpose, proving that with resilience, courage, and the support of her loved ones, it is possible to rise above even the most difficult circumstances.

Adventures in Life and Love: Exploring the World Together
Even today, Ms. Gitanjali refuses to stop learning. She has studied Reiki, Pranic Healing and Nutrition. She strongly believes that knowledge is meant to be shared, and every skill she acquires is another way to help others. She has also completed a course in Physiotherapy and Life Coaching, further enhancing her ability to assist those in need.

One of the most important lessons she learned was during Vipassana. Guruji, Mr. Goenka told her, “When you feel angry at the wrongdoing of others, don’t you feel compassion for them, as they don’t know any better.” These words changed her perspective on life. She realized that people don’t always act out of bad intentions; sometimes, they just don’t know any better. This understanding has helped her find inner peace and share positivity with those around her.

After years of focusing on her family, Ms. Gitanjali found love again in the most unexpected way through an online matrimonial website. She hesitated at first, but something told her to take a leap of faith. She began exchanging letters and video calls with a man who shared her love for learning and deep conversations. Within a month and a half, she flew to the U.S., and in just three days, they were married.

Their love story is not a typical fairy tale, but it is built on trust, respect, and companionship. Together, they traveled the world, attended Broadway shows, and enjoyed intellectual discussions. After spending many years in the U.S., they returned to India to continue a life filled with learning, love, and service to others. Nowadays, most of her evenings are spent attending workshops by Sukoon Unlimited, a platform she truly enjoys, as it allows her to continue her learning journey while connecting with like-minded individuals.

Her father’s words continue to guide her: “If you have knowledge, wealth, or happiness, share it with others.” And that is exactly what she does, every single day.

Her journey proves that it is never too late to reinvent yourself, to find love, to chase new dreams, or to make a difference in the world.
