Some people spend their lives seeking knowledge, but for Putul Majumdar, learning has been as natural as breathing. At seventy-one, she remains as curious, passionate, and determined as she was in her younger years. Whether as a teacher, a mother, an artist, or a spiritual seeker, she has embraced every phase of her journey with resilience and an open heart.

Lighting Up Minds: A Legacy of Interactive Education

Putul’s journey in education began in the 1980s when she became a mathematics teacher. For nearly four decades, she devoted herself to making numbers less intimidating for her students. Teaching was never just about formulas and equations for her; it was about igniting curiosity and making learning a joyful experience.

She recalls a moment when her students struggled to understand the difference between two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. Instead of repeating textbook definitions, she encouraged them to observe their surroundings. By pointing out real-life examples, she saw their faces light up with understanding. Moments like these defined her teaching philosophy learning should be interactive, engaging, and insightful.

Even after retirement, she never stopped learning. At fifty-five, she took up computers and later ventured into digital painting, transforming her traditional artwork into digital creations. She believes that staying young isn’t just about physical activity but about keeping the mind engaged.

Against the Odds: Prioritizing Education, Forging Success
Life was not always easy for Putul. After marriage, she moved from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar, adjusting to a new environment. Raising a family during political and economic instability came with its own set of challenges. Despite financial uncertainties, she and her husband prioritized their children’s education. Today, her daughter is a Supreme Court advocate, and her son, an MBA graduate, is settled in Bangalore a testament to their sacrifices and perseverance.

In 2005, a severe fall led to long-term knee issues. Doctors recommended surgery, but she chose yoga and physiotherapy instead. Through consistent effort, she regained mobility, proving that resilience and determination can be powerful healers.

The Healing Touch: Exploring Nature's Medicinal Wonders

Beyond teaching, Putul found joy in creativity. She immersed herself in knitting, embroidery, and tatting, finding peace in creating with her hands. Her recent interest in medicinal plants has led her to explore nature’s healing properties, reinforcing her belief that learning never stops.

Her spiritual journey has been deeply influenced by Swami Vivekananda. His teachings have guided her thoughts and decisions, fostering a deep-rooted interest in Sanskrit and ancient scriptures. She dreams of enrolling in an online Sanskrit course, furthering her quest for knowledge.

For Putul, spirituality is not about rituals but a way of life grounded in truth, discipline, and self-improvement.

The Art of Re-Discovery: Finding Fulfillment in Later Years

Retirement was an unfamiliar phase, initially marked by a sense of emptiness. However, she soon embraced it as an opportunity to rediscover herself. She dedicated time to painting, embroidery, digital art, and spiritual studies. Engaging with new communities, sharing her skills, and helping others brought her immense fulfillment.

She believes retirement is not about slowing down but about pursuing long-lost dreams and cultivating new interests.

A Home in Sukoon Unlimited
Through her journey, Putul found a place where she truly belonged a community that values wisdom, experience, and the spirit of learning. Sukoon Unlimited is more than just a group of senior citizens; it is a family where knowledge is shared, ideas exchanged, and personal growth continues.

For her, Sukoon has brought friendships, inspiration, and a renewed sense of purpose. She shares her art, wisdom, and experiences, proving that age is just a number and that the heart can remain young forever.

Her story is a testament that life is not defined by the years we live but by how much we continue to grow, learn, and give back. And for Putul Majumdar, every day is a chance to begin again.
