Some stories linger in your heart long after you’ve heard them Mr. Anand’s is one of them. His journey is a moving tale of love, loss, and the remarkable strength to begin again. From finding solace in spiritual pilgrimages to chasing new adventures with unwavering determination, he proves that life, no matter the age or circumstances, is still an open road waiting to be traveled.

From Playful Days to Solid Principles: The Foundation Years

Mr. Anand’s childhood was filled with the kind of carefree joy that many reminisce about but few truly cherish in the moment. Growing up in a close-knit family, he shared a mischievous bond with his brother and uncle, spending endless hours playing cricket, fishing in the local ponds, and embracing the simple pleasures of life. His parents, particularly his mother, were always present guiding, nurturing, and instilling in him the importance of kindness, discipline, and respect.

The strong familial support created a foundation of unwavering values that shaped his interactions with the world. His mother, a teacher by profession, was a strong advocate of education and self-betterment, while his father, a disciplined soldier in the Indian Army, emphasized structure and perseverance. His father, who retired in 1868 from the Army Service Corps (ASC), had an extraordinary life filled with bravery and sacrifice. During his service, he fought in two wars and traveled extensively. Mr. Anand vividly remembers his father’s chilling wartime stories like the time he had to hide for three days without food or water to avoid being killed during an intense bombardment. His father had warned his friend not to run for cover, knowing it would expose him to enemy fire, but despite the warning, his friend was tragically killed. These experiences shaped Mr. Anand’s deep reverence for courage and loyalty.

Another remarkable incident his father narrated involved being accompanied by four soldiers who misguided him while they were transporting supplies. Before they could find proper shelter, a sudden bombing took place. Despite the chaos, his father bravely ensured that the three trucks he was responsible for reached their destination safely. It was later revealed that one of the soldiers who misguided him was a traitor, making his father’s successful escape and protection of the convoy all the more commendable.

His mother, too, was a figure of strength. After Mr. Anand was born, she pursued her education once again, showing her unwavering dedication to self-improvement and learning. Her determination became an enduring lesson for him, demonstrating that growth and resilience have no age limit.

From Despair to Discovery: The Path to Healing
Life, however, is not without its trials. The passing of Mr. Anand’s mother in 2019 was a devastating blow, one that was compounded by the loss of his wife in 2020, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Losing two of the most significant figures in his life within a short span of time left him grappling with emotions he had never encountered before. He found himself retreating, unable to step out, engage in conversations, or find joy in his usual routines. The world, once vibrant with laughter and companionship, felt painfully empty.

But in grief, he found resilience. Understanding that he couldn’t allow sorrow to consume him, he turned to writing as a means of expression, allowing his thoughts to flow freely onto paper. He also discovered solace in spirituality, immersing himself in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, which he read five times over the span of a few years. This sacred text became his guide, offering him clarity and helping him accept life’s impermanence. Slowly but surely, he rebuilt himself, choosing to honor the memories of his loved ones by living a life filled with purpose rather than dwelling in sorrow.

Similarly, his children have been a source of immense support and comfort. They have always stood by him, encouraging his pursuits and respecting his need for both solitude and connection. Reclaiming Rhythm: Physical and Spiritual Journeys
Embracing change, Mr. Anand adopted a routine that kept him physically and mentally engaged. He began participating in Pada Yatras spiritual walking pilgrimages covering 30-35 kilometers a day. These journeys, beyond being physically rejuvenating, offered him a sense of peace, companionship, and reflection. Additionally, he committed to daily morning walks, covering around 7-8 kilometers, which became his personal time to gather his thoughts and set a positive tone for the day ahead.

His innate need to connect with people found new life through social interactions. He actively engaged in conversations, forging bonds with those he met along the way. His belief that relationships need nurturing saw him regularly checking up on friends and acquaintances, never letting anyone feel forgotten. But more than just companionship, he found a deeper purpose in supporting his two unmarried cousin brothers, who had been living with him for years. Their presence gave him a renewed sense of responsibility, reinforcing his belief that life is not meant to be lived in isolation, but through shared experiences and mutual support.
